What To Do With Thin, Short, Breaking, Not Growing Hair

Answering Hair Extension Questions By Jaclynn Kate

Hair thinning seems to be one of the biggest issues I see day to day in the salon. What causes hair thinning? Well a number or things. Try over use of a curling iron, not using a leave in conditioner, over drying your hair, drying out your hair with the wrong hair products, medication, medical issues you might not know you have. Or the one i diagnose most is over use of a flat iron. Ladies, believe it or not, you do not need to singe your hair off to make it straight! Putting your flat iron on a medium to low heat, will in fact straighten your hair. Also using a heat protectant is highly recommended. I personally use the It's a 10 Leave In Plus Keratin, it is a great easy to use product! It helps protect hair against heat elements, detangles, adds shine, repairs damage & split ends, gives body, and so much more. Great to use especially after a Keratin treatment to maintain sleek and smooth results!

Along with the thinning hair comes the breaking & then the hair becoming short. Not a lot of ladies feel beautiful with short hair. I for one don't. So we are seeing more an more ladies come in for Hair Extension consultations.

Here are some questions I get asked weekly during consultations:
Q. My hair is thinning, can I still get extensions?
JK. In all honesty I have to SEE and FEEL the hair to give you a direct answer. 99% of the time the answer is YES. Extensions are made to elongate the hair & give the hair a thinker look.

Q. Will the extensions damage my hair?
A. NO. Hair Treats Hair Extensions are none damaging hair extensions bonded to your hair by a bead.

Q. How long do the extensions last.
JK. If taken care of properly they will last you up to 6-8 months.

Q. I color my hair myself. Can I still color my hair with extensions?
JK. We do NOT recommend you coloring your hair yourself at home. If you over lap bleach on your extensions they could very well break off. Know this. The extensions are 100% human remny hair, however it is not human hair attached directly to the scalp. Its not getting the same treatment as 'alive' hair is. You will dry your hair out and the extensions could very well break if tried at home.

Q. What kind of shampoo should I use?
JK. We recommend the Hair Treats shampoo & Conditioner because it is highly concentrated & will give you extensions the moisture you need to make them LAST!

Q. How many do I need to get?
JK. Tricky questions. It all depends on what YOU want your result to be. If you are looking to just add length, depending on the density of your hair you could get away with just 60 peices. On another note, if you want to leave looking like you have Victoria Secret model hair I say go for the length, body & volume and get the full 100 pieces.

Q. Do I need to sleep with my hair a certain way?
JK. We suggest you trying to sleep with your hair in a braid. It will keep the extensions from tangling & prevent you from over brushing them.

Q. Do I need to fill my hair?
JK. No these are not glued in. Like I said before they are bonded with a bead. They grow out with your hair. Ever 4-6 week you come back into the salon, we open up the bead & push the extension back up & re clamp the bead onto your hair. Therefore prolonging the life of your extension.

I do offer complimentary consultations and would be happy to answer any questions, comments or concerns you might have about getting hair extensions. Or even about the ones you might already have in your head!

Hair Extensions That Are Damaging By Jaclynn Kate
Good Vs. Bad Hair Extensions In Rhode Island

Their is so much stipulations about hair extensions. I hear in the salon all the time 'they're so bad for your hair' or 'they'll rip your hair out' or they'll help your hair grow'. Well let me set some of this mess straight. Yes, some hair extensions are damaging. Seriously though. You think melting glue into your hair is safe? Just because it has Keratin in the glue?! It's still glue! Just let that work GLUE sit in your head for a second.......not good.

Hair extensions ripping your hair out. That's one I head a lot. Okay everything needs maintenance & hair extensions  are A LOT of maintenance. They take extra time to wash, comb, dry, style, everything. So if you go into your head with a regular brush and put that brush RIGHT to your head WHERE the extensions are & BUSH your hair. Ummm .. yeah, I think you are going to rip one out. They're attached to only a few strands of your hair & you need to maintain them exactly how your stylist tells you too!

Hair Extensions will help your hair grow! LOl ... I wish this was true. So here's how it works. We go in and put rows of hair extensions in your hair. Now you see an image every day of yourself with long hair. And day after your actual hair IS growing you just don't notice it cause you see the extensions. So in all actuality it has NOTHING to do with the extensions. You just aren't noticing your hair growing normally. That's it. It has nothing to do with the extensions themselves. LOL I always did think that statement was quite funny. Like how do people really think that worked? Was the extension magical? lol....

Moving on. I thought I would share some images and some of my educated opinions on these bad hair extension pictures.
So I DID NOT DO THIS! I found this on Google and thought I would throw in my thoughts. This client is a prime candidate for hair extensions. In my opinion she didn't get enough hair extensions & they didn't put them up high enough for her to blend them properly. Never mind the fact she could use a better color job to match the blonde hair extensions.

Oh yes the miss Britney. As you can see here she has a ring around the top part of her head. Yes that's her track. This type of extension is braided/sowed into your head. OUCH. the amount of weight put on your head & hair is awful! Talk about head aches! Also I'm not quite sure why her stylist did it so far to the top of her head but it's awful! It was going to be too obvious with a track that she has extensions!

So if you don't want your hair to look like this!! ^^

Hair extensions might seen like it's the new thing on the uprising, however it is far from it.   In 1800 fake hair was frowned upon and women left their hair to be natural until the 'Romantic' era was in full swing when women wore elaborate Apollo knots.Around the mid Victorian era & hair pieces were used a lot more extensively. Then strangely in the early 20th century Edwardian women wore false hair additions to create the pompadour hairstyle which looked like a woman was wearing a teapot on her head. How that became fashionable I don't really know! (LOL)

This photo above is a photo of me. This is my before & after of having the Hair Treats Extensions put in my hair.

Around the 1920's (my fav era) less hair was the big thing so hair pieces took a dive around that time and it wasn't until the 1940s when long hair came back into fashion and women starting indulging again. Then in the 1960's big hair was back with a vengeance. Extravagant human hair pieces were used in this time to create fashionable updos. Wigs made from real or fake hair were commonly worn around this time too and carried on into the early 70's. Come the 80's and big hair was in but only natural hair. Famous singers wore wigs but that was about it, mainly because of price.
Starting in the early 90s hair extensions were highly expensive if you wanted 100% human hair. If they were purchases nine times out of ten they were 'fake' hair. You would hear of ladies 'singeing' their hair extensions off. Ouch! Nonetheless, if they weren't frying their hair extensions off, you would hear horror stories about the damage the extensions would leave behind! It hasn't been until recently top of the line hair extensions were at an 'affordable' price for the middle class.
Hair Treats Hair Extensions are top of the line, 100% human hair extensions. They are absolutely changing peoples views on hair extensions. Not only are they damage free, they last you six solid months and sometimes more! With this brand of hair extensions you can add volume, length, dimention, a pop of fantasy color, and more! They're fantastic!
This is one of my clients at my salon in Warwick RI. I put in a full set of Hair Treats Extensions for her. She always had short hair & wanted to try out something new for her 30th birthday! Yes, these are a set of curly Hair Treats as well.

This is another one of my client in my salon in Warwick RI. I am a full time hair and makeup artist there and this client had one of her friends try and color her hair. As you can see in the first photo her hair is shoulder length and in serious need of a corrective color &Keratin Treatment. I did a cut, corrective color, Keratin Treatment and a full head of Hair Treats. Out come is amazing!

Another before and after hair extension. Here my client at my salon in Warwick RI, is in need of a very heavy highlight as well as cutting her dead ends off. As you can see in the second photo, I put in about 80 hair extensions and she achieved 18" in length. She also wanted a ten pack of fantasy colors put in so you can see some purple in her hair.

I do offer complimentary consultations and would be happy to answer any questions, comments or concerns you might have about getting hair extensions. Or even about the ones you might already have in your head!

I Hate My Short Hair, Can I Get Extensions? By Jaclynn Kate

Are Hair Extensions Right For Me?

I Hate My Short Hair, Can I Get Extensions?

Lets Talk About You & Your Short Hair

Lets Talk About You & Your Short Hair

Are Hair Extensions Right For Me? By Jaclynn Kate

Alright, so are hair extensions right for you? Are they even an option for you? Are you ready for the constant up keep? FYI they are a serious commitment ladies' let's just put that out there before you even think about setting up a consultation.  Are you ready for the additional time it will take you to actually style your hair? These are some of the questions you should be asking yourself & trying to get the answer. Let me see if I can answer some of this for you...

Okay, so are hair extensions right for you? They are right for you if, you have enough hair to blend them with. Meaning the BEST length is about to your shoulders. I HAVE done hair A LOT shorter ( I will post photos below), however the best length to blend the extensions is the shoulders. It gives me a lot more room to work with them. Hair extensions can be right for you if your hair is strong enough to handle the added weight. The type of extensions I do aren't as heavy as others on the market. However if you just bleached your hair out to feel like spaghetti hair extensions ARE NOT meant for you right now. You need to go home & give that hair some nutrients & then come see me. Hair extensions are great for adding additional volume and density to your hair, but if you don't have enough already on your hair to hide the beads, then they might not be an option for you. AGAIN, CONSULTATIONS ARE COMPLIMENTARY TO DETERMINE IF YOU ARE A PROPER CANDIDATE FOR EXTENSIONS. BEST WAY TO KNOW IS FOR A STYLIST TO SEE YOUR HAIR IN PERSON.

Hair extensions are not wash & go with out combing & proper maintenance. You have to wash these bad boys, make sure you are using a good leave in conditioner. Make sure you are sleeping with them properly. Make sure you are styling them properly etc. Ladies, you must remember this hair is not physically attached to your head, it's real hair but its just dead. You must give this hair the moisture level it truly needs and the extra care it will need to pro long the lifeline. When you come in for a 'fill' your stylist will be able to tell right away if you are not taking the right precautions with the extensions.

Let's visit our talk about the length of your hair to get extensions. Okay, so if you have two inches of hair on your head. Yes I can put extensions in. But what we are worried about is the blending.

Meet Heather! Heather went to a new salon on a Groupon for a hair cut. Now my experience with Groupon has been great for nails & goods, but I don't know if I would go for a hair cut! Any how, she said she asked for a trim and her hair WAS past her shoulders & came to me with the hair cut to the left!! Whoa!! That's a lot!! I explained to Heather the blending would be difficult for the very short top layers, however if we layered the extensions some and spent time styling it I think we can do it! She was on board & we put in 120 hair extensions. The color came out kind of Ombre looking so she later came back after this photo was takes, and put in blonde highlights on the top & she LOVES it.

So again, extensions were technically not for Heather, but we made it work together but being on the same page. She will have to put in the extra time in the morning styling her extensions but she said she is committed. As Heathers hair grows out it will look that much more beautiful!

Meet Adalia! Adalia travels in from NYC for her extensions. As you can see from the photo to the left, she has kind of long hair but it is very thin. Her thin hair is strong however & with the length she has, she was a great candidate for extensions! Adalia got 100 pieces of extensions but we only put in 80 & her hair looks amazing after! You can't even see where they are! Adalia colors her hair the darkest black, so I chose two different shades of extensions for some dimension.

Long Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Long Hair Don't Care Hair Extensions!!

Long Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Lets Talk About YOU Always Wanting Long Hair

Lets Talk About YOU Always Wanting Long Hair

I hear it all the time in the salon.. 'I wish I had long hair".. "I've tried so hard to grow my hair out & it just wont grow"... 'I wish I could afford hair extensions"...  Listen... Hair extensions are an investment. You are investing in making your hair look better & making yourself FEEL better. If you are looking around for hair extensions & you think you found a killer cheap deal, just remember if it's too good to be true, somethings wrong.

If you have already wished for long hair & done your research you know good hair extensions don't come cheap. You want something with a long lifeline that is promised to be 100% Remy quality and that wont DAMAGE YOUR HAIR.

Microloop hair extensions IF DONE PROPERLY by a licensed and certified stylist do no damage. The biggest question I get when I have clients who have these extensions in is, "sometimes I feel like my hair is falling out, am I going to have a bald spot'? The answer is no. Your hair is not falling out. See what's happening is the human head loses/sheds between 100-200 strands of hair a day. So when you think about your hair being clamped in between a bead for the hair extensions to hold onto it's normal for you to see some strands shed.

Furthermore these hair extensions are REAL hair. It's very normal for the extensions themselves to shed over time. They require a lot of up keep, however the lifeline of these extensions make it worth all the work you put into them.

This is one of my clients in the salon Marie. As you can see from the photo to the left Marie has very short thin hair. Marie found me online from my blog & decided to come see me after getting a chemical hair cut in a previous salon. Now the photo to the right is after I put in 100 pieces of hair extensions (being a 'full head). I did NOT color her hair to match the extensions. The color of her hair to the left of the photo is how she came in. I them matched her extensions to compliment her already hair color.

Because these extensions have already been 'bombed' and treated, you want to find a stylist who is going to stray away from having to color the extensions to match your hair color.

Most times I will use more then one color of extensions to blend the hair properly & keep it still looking natural. You have a lot of options & possibilities, make sure you & your stylist are both on the same page so you can get your monies worth.
